Grateful Afrika Networking
On Tuesday February 5th 2008, Grateful Afrika hosted a diner in honor of Hortense foaty Vice president of Lumiere Action, a NGO operating in Ivory Coast.
Mrs Foaty was in the US on one of her periodical visits. During Mrs Foaty’s stay the Board of Grateful Afrika had 2 meetings with her to review the annual report of 2007 about our joined HIV/AIDS prevention campaign in the Cote d’ivoire. The board noted with satisfaction that the number of people tested is in steady increase since 2005. In 2007, more than 5000 people were tested and all them came back to retrieve their test result.
However, this success should not overshadow the difficulties of our operations in Africa in general and particularly in the Cote d’ivoire. Among the challenges are the anxieties of the waiting period to know the result. This is due to the testing method used which requires 15 days waiting period for the result while instant modern testing (swab) is available elsewhere.
Another area of satisfaction is the success of the prevention campaign in general and particularly among the students population. Awareness among the students population is high and more students are getting involved in the work done against HIV/AIDS and use of condoms is on the rise among the students.
In view of the efforts being made and in order to increase our level of success in Cote d’ivoire, the board decided to support the prevention campaign by a monthly donation of condoms. A first donation of 3000 condoms was made on the spot to Lumiere Action. The board also agreed to seek out testing swabs to be sent to Africa to make testing a lot easier and reduce the level of anxiety in the testing process.

Basket Ball Donation Program
On June 26, 2007, we had a Basketball donation program at the Essex West Side Park in New Jersey. We saw the need to donate these basketballs as a means of recreation for the youths. From this we hope to accomplish
some unity in the community as well as reducing crime on our streets.
